We offer this course as a pre-employment program to unemployed job seekers looking to acquire entry level skills for employment in the civil construction industry. The training is usually conducted at a community organization where practical projects including paving and concreting are carried out.

The first week is typically conducted in a classroom environment where theory is taught. Following the theory, the training is conducted in a live works, hands on setting where participants are actively and directly involved in the practical construction of projects.

A Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process will be undertaken prior to the commencement of the training to identify the skills and knowledge the person has acquired through work experience, formal and informal training and / or general life experience.

Ongoing assessments will be conducted throughout the program and may include completion of activity workbooks, actual or simulated workplace activities, observation of skills and knowledge applied within the workplace, written tests, research projects and informal / formal questioning.

White card is a compulsory part of every course given it is a mandatory requirement under the law for all persons wishing to carry out construction type work anywhere in Australia. This will include the live works project students will be working on as part of their training.

This will be provided at no additional cost to the student and will be issued on a separate Statement of Attainment once competency is achieved.

Students must be over 18 years of age to be eligible for this training program. Enrolment for persons under 18 years of age will not be accepted.

English language requirements

International students must satisfy our English language proficiency requirements for admission into all of our courses. For applicants whose first language is not English they will need to have:

•   Achieved an IELTS (Academic Module) overall score of 5.5 (no band less than 5.0); or
•   Successful completion of an approved secondary or tertiary qualification, taught in the English language in a country where English is the official language or the main language spoken with evidence no more than five years old on the proposed date of commencement of the course; or
• Successfully completed a pre-course English program from an approved ELICOS Provider.
• Other evidence of English language proficiency may be accepted.
• Evidence of English language proficiency must be no more than two years old on the proposed date of commencement of the course.
